Number 60

This weekend was the exhibition of the 100 t-shirts by JazzCakes, where 100 artists were handed a t-shirt and a number and the freedom to “do what you will”

Above is a picture of my offering.

Number: 60 ~ The flow of life.

I have taken the number 60 as two separate entities as well as the combined number sixty.

6 in numerology is the number of love and harmony, the upside of the all powerful number 9. The yin to the yang. The love of life. The perfection of love.

0 represents the symbol of eternity the ever perfect circle of life.

We experience so many things  by our 60th birthday, we will have collected up many stories, situations and beliefs; catching them in the fine mesh of our own understandings, deepening our beliefs and occasionally clogging up our mind creating blockages if not dealt with.

The piece I have created incorporates the original framework of the T-shirt, using the net to indicate with its thousands of holes represent all the many situations and occasions that occur in our lives. A whispering doubt here, a misunderstanding, not taking responsibility for ones action all adds to a foggy state of being. Most of our emotions can be felt in the centre core of our body, in the heart, as depicted. Felt ventricles of the heart form shapes of “6” and “0”

This piece acts as a reminder to me to remain free flowing through life with love at its centre core, to embrace life with passion and excitement – letting nothing hold me back!

What’s clogging you up?

Materials used:

Mix of felt, netting, vintage, recycled & previously discarded.

JazzCakes are artist-led ‘arts collectionors’, currently based in Cardiff, founded by James Harper and Sarah-Jane Broderick.

Since 2008 JazzCakes’ aim has been to bring artists from across the arts together through various projects and events.

JazzCakes have strong roots in T-shirts and Cakes as well as Fine Art, but try to incorporate artists and designers in every area from theatre to graphic design, dance to architecture.

Formed in 2008 as t-shirt designers/street artists taking part in various monthly markets such as Milgi’s Northcote Lane Market and the Amersham Arm’s Jumble. From there we began to sell works by our friends such as T-shirt designs by Dan Cansfield and prints by Charlie Ridler. At the same time beginning to organise Guerilla Tea Parties on the streets of Cardiff. The tea parties became a kind of anti-rave, a civilised approach to socialising on a weekend where people would come, drink tea, eat biscuits and generally just talk.

Now organising and curating projects and exhibitions with specific briefs designed to highlight the vastly different approaches to making from artists working in their respective disciplines.

The JazzCakes website serves as a directory of all the events currently organised and lists profiles of all the artists who we have associated with since its inception.

As its too icey on the roads, snow stops play tonight. Brrrr.

So instead I think I’ll catch up on some reading in the bath. Mmm.

And as with most things in my life – I’ve got a couple of things on the go… (pertaining only to projects, books, ideas, hair-styles) Heh, heh… Not sure if G would be reading this… thought I’d better cover my tracks and with that in mind the first book:

The Vortex by Jerry & Esther Hicks. All about aligning positive relationships. Its a really uplifting book and great for bathtime.

Second is a book that was just handed to me (isn’t that nice when that happens and by getting in the Vortex that is usually what does just happen!)

A Place Called Here by Cecelia Ahern. I’ve only read the back so far. Front tagline reads ‘ Ever wondered where the lost things go?’

Which aptly brings me onto my third book:

Infinite Possibilities by Mike Dooley

As a ‘UGE fan of his notes from the universe I promptly bought his book, but have lost it. Ahem. Cue the second book to help me find the third! I think it must be because for a long time, I just carried it round in different bags trying to catch a second here or a minute there to read it…

Mike will make you laugh, he writes in such a heart warmingly way, its like watching a film that you don’t want to end, just want to keep reading his words forever… well at least until his next book.

Hmm – I wonder where you are, maybe you have found yourself in the hands of someone who needed you more than I… will buy another copy.

What are your favourite bedtime/bathtime/on the bus reads?

W.I and I… The Second Scoop!

It’s Christmastime at the W.I…

Ok I arrive late with my tuna based offering, meet up with our Lady Chair who comments “Well I don’t like that sort of thing, but put it down someone will eat it” I’d say we’re off to a flying start!

They make room for me on the table, there are lots of hellos to be said, they fill up my plastic glass with some “red” I quickly notice there are 2 types of bottles making the rounds… red and white (that’s sparkling berry mineral water and elderflower sparkling water) everyone seems to be referring to them as wine…

We commented on our lovely spread as we ate, pulled crackers (I think I might of accidentally pulled the wrong cracker which sent me into a bizarre world of cracker etiquette and more than a few glances from the bottom end of the table) smirked at the jokes… ya know the usual Christmas fare. There were some “visitors” from a neighbouring institute who sat at our table and were lovely. We talked about Banksy and art and the rain. We had a 15 question Christmas themed quiz (we won) and then on with the important business the raffle!

I’ve always been a bit curious about numbers… and a bit more curious about possibility and probability in maths..  Why is it each and every raffle I enter I win something? Should I not question this? Just remain blissfully content and smug in my raffle track record score…. Law of Attraction? I think so.  Now this particular night being so tardy  I wasn’t  there to buy a raffle ticket… but still on the winners table. Lady Chair (still my fave) must have practiced this special skill – she did not have her ticket with her and when someone told her the number – that ticket came up! Whoops and hollars were to be heard from our table (god we were having such a fun time!) but what I find even more curious, it wasn’t actually her number – someone had told her the wrong one – but when she had believed it was and had been concentrating on that number so I came to pass… be careful what you think of – wish for and THINK OUTCOME rather than the details!

Met someone new tonight, she talked of different pastries (oh how I knew this would be!)

We also sang some Christmas Carols which for me was a pure delight, I felt anonymous yet tied together in song with these other ladies – a really releasing experience. I don’t think I’ve stood and sung my heart out since standing in assembly wishing myself elsewhere…

Looking forward so much to 2010 and all that it holds…

What about you?
