This Halloween I mastered the Milk Jelly! Made especially for my Zombietopia Dr. Sketchy night!

Heres how:

1 can of evaporated milk

130g of raspberry jelly

1 brain mould

Gelatin leaves (optional)

Dissolve the jelly with the minimum of boiling water in a small bowl and allow to cool.  Add the milk and mix well, make up with half the recommended water that the jelly packet states and refridgertae for 2-4 hours!

I added some gelatine leaves too – just to make extra sure the brain shape would come out!

Was lovely to see so many of you there.

I’ve been thinking about what new changes this new season will bring in. Looking forward to working with more and more creative people as we enter a time of change.

The October/November seasonal change is possibly the most powerful of all the year round. Pick some changes you would like to see in your life, write them down, write down all the wonderful things that might happen if those changes took place,  how it would make you feel, what you would hear people say, what sounds and sensations this new you changes would bring in… almost taste them… meditate on them, add to this list and look at it often… let its power draw you in and believe we still have magic within just as the beauty of this time is reflected in the changes in nature so too, let past problems, concerns and anxieties fall away and feed your new growth like leaves off a tree, let that knowledge nourish you and help you grow renewed and even more beautiful, powerful and vibrant as last year.

I can’t believe its been one whole year since I set up the North Wales branch of Dr. Sketchy’s Anti-Art School. So much has happend this year, all brilliant, fun, time consuming, life affirming stuff.

I’ve invited back Burlesque Goddess Anna Fur Laxis – who will be performing and posing for your pencils at the Scala Cinema & Arts Centre in Prestatyn.

We’ve got a bit of twist on the night too… we have been applauding our pupils all year for their sketchy endeavours but this Friday we’re inviting YOU to come and pose in a sexy Zombie Pin-Up style comp! The sexiest most pin-upable Zombie will be crowned our 1st year winner, will be looking for great costumes, fab poses and pretty undead pouting.

I haven’t made something for the house in a while so when I had a change of plans this weekend and with the thrill of a newly sanded down table in the offering I thought I’d treat it and myself to some co-ordinating napkins. Super easy to make.

Right sides together, layer of wadding, stitch all the way around remembering to leave a gap to turn right sides round, iron down, topstitch all round and then quilt to your hearts content!

I decided to treat myself to these delicious gallettes too – so buttery and so yum. Here’s the recipe if you’re interested!

*If you are interested in the dimensions I’ve used here, I cut 2 pieces of co-ordinating fabric 18″ x 13″ with the wadding a little smaller.

Its wonderful when you find out about people doing such great creative stuff! I was so happy when Alex from Golden Souk contacted me bringing with her enchanting finds from far away places…

Its clear her passion for artistry and good design as well as her heart for providing the makers of Jaisalmer also known as the Golden City a living from them would be an ideal Guest Designer at Extinct.

Here is a little more about her journey…

“A few years ago with a summer spent in India, I journeyed to a historic walled town in Rajasthan called Jaisalmer. Jaisalmer is also known as the Golden City because the sandstone ridge on which it stands gives a golden-yellowish tinge to the town and the surrounding area.

Despite the poverty present in the Golden City – as in the majority of India – the area is renowned for its exquisite embroidery, leather goods and Rajasthani mirror work. Techniques and traditions which have been handed down through centuries from family to family are used to create what can only be described as works of art.

To meet the artists who produce these beautiful pieces was a humbling experience. They are wonderful, warm people who work so hard just to survive. We wanted to help in someway but we knew that giving them money would only be a short-term benefit. But an ongoing business relationship with them could enhance their quality of life and go someway to ensuring that the family-run businesses would survive in this fast-developing country.

So we set up Golden Souk. We felt that if we could create demand for their products this would enable them to gain a measure of financial security. Extensive research and careful business planning has meant we have built up a strong working relationship with the families and helped ensure the fair treatment of the craftsmen.”

Leather bags ranging from £15 – £60 – are genuine leather, dyed on site and not mass produced in a large factory, they are handmade in their family shop.

Its certainly the month for marrying! What with all the Royal nuptials reminders everywhere puts me in a Cinderella frame of mind. I think I may have mentioned this before but ALL TIME FAVOURITE EVER STORY – Cinderella -

Whats not to love?  A beautiful big dress made from magic (swoon), a glass slipper (Ooooh shoes!!) oh and yeah there’s a Prince too. I used to dream of having my own dressmaking business so I could create the all time greatest Cinderella gown. But the dress is the least of a bride to be’s concerns, setting the impression and tone of the wedding with the invites is where this fairytale begins…

Once upon a time beautiful bride to be contacted Extinct Design to ask about our handmade card Guest Designer – Naomi Made This. The bride in question had planned a beautiful rustic wedding nestled in the lush Welsh country side, the bride chose for her invites custom made hearts and buttons from Naomi Made This.

She wanted buttons, and hearts and unique handmadeness what could be better? And surly fit for a princess?

On receiving the gorgeous bundle of cards and carefully crafted inserts she exclaimed:

“I can’t stop looking at them! I can’t tell you how thrilled I am, they are better than I could ever have imagined. Simply perfect.”

So it was that since 1st February this year I decided to go Raw.

Eating 100% raw uncooked food for 30 days. I sort of cheated as February only has 28 days at the best of times. But what a transformation I’ve felt only in the first week.
I didn’t want to put any pressure on myself (as most will know any diet of any sort is sure to play mind games) so I didn’t set any goals, just a “see how far you get with this Heath”

My premise was to:
- eat raw as much as possible
- eat when I wanted
- stop when I wanted
- be mindful of the food I was making
- make my meals with love
- take the time to clean and clear before sitting to eat
- eat mindfully
- use up the healthy ingredients I already have
- no wastage

Oh. Looking at the list it seems quite long but it was really easy to incorporate all of these elements.

A few days into the Raw food diet I had the most sublime Reiki Massage by the wonderful Janet Green at Strestless. This really helped keep my motivation high and mind on track in the early stages.

I found my sleeping pattern took a turn for the better very early on. I’d awake naturally and usually 30 minutes after would help myself to either some cereal that I still had (muesli or bran flakes) and soya milk or a big bowl of fruit. There wasn’t a “lunch” as such, more when next felt like eating I would try to tune into what my body wanted out of the fresh stuff on offer. I found sometimes it would be a handful of various nuts, dried apricots and the like or big salads with queen and kalamata olives.

I experimented with some recipes and developed a “thing” for Kale & Tahini salad as shown here by the glorious Russell James – The Raw Chef

The highlight of the month came at the start of March with a Raw Food party hosted by Pip of Prana Yoga & Massage.

A fantastic night of like minded raw foodies. We all brought a raw food dish to share, the food on offer was delicious. I took the Kale & Tahini Salad along with a Raw Chocolate Torte (pic above). Everyone’s dishes complimented each others, there was plum and orange salads, nutty beetroot salads, broccoli and creamed cashew salads, Greek feta salad amongst others and plenty to desserts too!! Even ice cream – brazil nut ice cream. It was heavenly and great to feel like I’d “pigged out” on the best available raw and vegan food around.

Pip treated us all to a vibrant green juice of spinach and ginger, followed by a carrot and apple juice. Throughly cleansing and totally delicious.

I’ll be posting further updates, recipes and my story as I continue my Raw Food lifestyle.
