There isn’t the words to explain when you set up your own business and start to think about own branded stuff. Business cards, postcards, fliers – all with your own happy handmades, details of your wares and how to get in touch.

I think the tradition started in the Victorian times (must check my facts on that) where tall fancy fellas would pass out their calling cards as they started up their new business ideas.. I’m imagining a sort of anti Lord Sugar figure. OK maybe I’m romanticising the whole thing and of course none of that is based on any facts.. but the facts that do remain are;

1. there is nothing finer than having a well designed business cards that reflect you and your business

2. you have to have a good great printing company to back them up

Look no further than Moo. The coolest card company to come along in these modern times! Hot bang sizzling bright colours, beautiful finish and excellent service.

I buy my business cards, tags and postcards from them and wanted to share with you.

The long thin mini-cards are perfect for me and my slight bi-polar tendencies on wanting many (if not all) different colours on my Extinct Logo. You can add up t0 100 different designs to show case your work, be it crafty makes, photography or 100 different eye make-up designs (OMG! How lush would that be.)

I use them not only to hand out but as tags for my many different makes.

Moo also produce standard sized business cards which are sweet as! I can use lots of different images on these too, they are that much bigger that my pictures work well on them. The print quality really does speak for itself, you almost don’t want to let them go… I always get a lovely reaction to them as they are far more exciting than the usual bizo card.

The site itself is easy to use. You create the image file yourself (there’s lots of help on there to show you the best sizes etc) upload them, edit if necessary and purchase. You will get sent a confirmation of your order and an update a few days later when they’ve been shipped out to you. If you are interested in having THE best business cards, stickers, tags to show off check out their site at www.moo.com

At the moment you can try 50 cards for FREE at Moo.

Hey You! What’s that in your Pocket?

Tuesday, May 11th, 2010

Imagine just having in your hands the type of notebook used by the great, thinkers, artists, poets, among them Vincent van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, Ernest Hemingway, and Bruce Chatwin. A simple black rectangle with rounded corners, an elastic page-holder, and an internal expandable pocket: a nameless object with a spare perfection all its own, produced for over a century by a small French bookbinder that supplied the stationery shops of Paris, where the artistic and literary avant-gardes of the world browsed and bought them. A trusted and handy travel companion, the notebook held invaluable sketches, notes, stories, and ideas that would one day become famous paintings or the pages of beloved books.

The legendary Moleskine notebooks have been lovingly up-cycled with hand painted oh-so-pretty vintage wallpaper!

Only one of each style available!!

I really like the colour mixes of these papers as well the designs which are reminiscent of many contemporary designers and high street designs.

The perfect little vintage notebook for all you ideas led creators!

To the shop I go!

All my thought eggs have been hatching nicely – had the new bed arrive from www.indigofurniture.co.uk on Monday and yes it has transformed our lives (just as we knew it would)

The house is coming on a treat and now with the log cabin all sitting (very) pretty in the garden I have all the right footings to take this baby to the next level – Blast off to my 31st Birthday!!

Extinct Design Barbie Gold

Who but Barbie can look great, sexy and fashionable  in gold larme  all at the same time? It’s no wonder 50 years on, women around the world, still want to be like her, be her friend and have her clothes!!

I know I do!

It’s where (like for many – oh god I’m a cliche!) I started my love for clothes… making a boob tube out of white and lemon wool (must of been itchy) for her back in the 80s, quietly thinking, Mmm wonder if I can get this in my size…

Never in the same dress twice, every colour suits her, every hairstyle works – I can see my work will never be done here…oh to keep reaching for the ultimate barbie costume!!

Here’s one I made earlier :)

Happy Birthday Barbie!

Vintage Earrings at Extinct Design

One St. Valentines day I remember… I was in Paris, all by myself, I remember there being heart balloons outside a few boutiques, I walked the city, visited the Roden Museum, took pictures, watched beautiful french couples act out their mini art house filmic lives… it was truly a stunning experience as I walked back to the Marcadet Poissonniers and bought many types of olive and 2L bottle of french style orange fanta. It was my best St. Valentines day ever.

Extinct is celebrating St. Valentines Day by including rare vintage earrings – sent from lovers from far off distant lands…

Vintage Decor

I wandered lonely as a cloud

That floats on high o’er vales and hills

When all at once I saw a crowd,

A host of golden daffodils,

Beside the lake, beneath the trees,

Fluttering and dancing in the breeze…

…and that is exactly how it happened. You know, sometimes when you think to yourself “hmmm wouldn’t it be nice to see some say, wooden stags” and then you look, and seek and find a couple and then a whole family of beautiful vintage carved wooden stags come along…..as if my magic! Come and visit them now!

Recycled Christmas time with the Jones!

Well, well, well, it’s been a very Merry Christmas, not to mention a thrifty one!

‘Our Graham’ caught me ditch deep battling with this years Christmas Tree! Found it cut down, sawn off in it’s prime, laying waste in a ditch….thought I’d better bag it as soon as can be, after a few odd looks from other motorists, who come along but my beloved, we collected the tree together and set about putting all me handmade apples and decorations to have ourselves a unique and thrifty – no expense spared – Christmas Tree!

Was really lovely to be able to make all natural wreaths for the door, some friends came round and we made them all up together…made our own mini arrrrt gallery as we surveyed them drinking tea n mince pies – we were all using the same leaves, pine and conifers but each one came out different and entirely unique!
Simply lovely!

I am really looking forward to 2009 – it’s going to be even more exciting than this year, got some great costume ideas and accessories to put in the shop, lots of creative ideas to share and oodles of excitement to emit! Have a Happy New Year – See you there!

Handmade Soap at Extinct Design

something to get your teeth into...

The Soapsicles have landed! Yay! What a totally delightful way to start the day, cheery Mr Postman brought me my sweet smelling tasty bath treats! I took no time in getting them online and quick as a flash ran round to my friends for a cuppa as we try to decide which one’s we liked the best!! Hee hee (jury’s still out on that one but I do have a soft spot for the Candy Carousel they are just my colours ya know?)

There is so much choice on flavours from crisp minty scents to soft bubblegums and candyfloss….but don’t spend too long deciphering which one, best course of action : make a firm positive choices and actions (phew its tough out there)

All soaps are SLS free and all fragrance oils are phthalate free. In other words – no funny stuff!

window shopping

Spent a lovely night over at my friends fair-trade coffee shop, window dressing with some lovely new items and Christmas decorations from extinct. We had the help of little Jacob (elf in training) who was overseeing all important artistic decisions from which colour pegs to use to what sweets to stuff in the nordic cones!! Yum!

Jacob’s Ladder Coffee shop can be found in the pretty Cathedral city of St. Asaph, North Wales, possibly one of the smallest cities in the world, I’m just starting my extinct take-over one city at a time!
